About the Artist – Future Cultures:

Future Cultures is a multicultural artist collective formed by Colombian–Australian artist Katira and French–Australian artist Lucy Lucy. United by shared values of cultural exchange and women’s empowerment, their collaborative practice explores diversity, multicultural identity, and feminine strength through bold, site‑responsive public artworks.

While both artists maintain independent careers in contemporary muralism and public art, their partnership on this project creates something distinct: a seamless blend of individual styles shaped by layered cultural identities and contemporary aesthetics. Their work is characterised by intricate patterns, botanical motifs, and striking feminine figures that honour cultural heritage and celebrate community. Collectively, they bring more than 15 years of experience collaborating with councils, cultural organisations, and festivals across Australia and internationally.

About the Artwork:

For Botanical Village, Future Cultures transformed two rickshaws into vibrant, interactive artworks using bold patterns, vivid colours, and hand‑painted storytelling to spark curiosity and connection. Patterns are central to their practice because they bridge cultures, acting as shared visual languages. As a multicultural duo, Katira and Lucy Lucy use these symbolic forms and iconography that naturally aligns with Asian artistic traditions, to express their identities and connect with the community. The resulting rickshaws are colourful, playful, and inviting, encouraging visitors to explore and experience the energy of the space through art.
